Practice 06
Litigation and arbitration
Commercial, civil and administrative cases — from the statement of claim to the court of cassation, in Sofia and throughout Bulgaria.
Disputes are won with documents.
We represent clients before every jurisdiction in Bulgaria — regional, district, appellate and administrative courts, the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Supreme Administrative Court, the Competition Protection Commission, the Consumer Protection Commission and arbitral tribunals.
Our core practice is commercial, contract, property, tax and administrative-penalty law: contractual claims, disputes with banks and lessors, non-performance and penalties, ownership and security.
Every case starts with an honest assessment: what the evidence is, how long it will take and what it will cost. Sometimes the best advice is to settle.

Questions and answers
Frequently asked questions
01How long does a commercial case take?
It depends on the complexity of the case and the court's workload. A first-instance case usually takes from several months to around a year; with appeal and cassation, considerably longer. At the first meeting we give you a realistic estimate for your case.
02Do I need to attend the hearings?
Generally not. Your lawyer represents you under a power of attorney; you need to attend only if the court summons you in person, for example to give explanations.
03Who pays the costs of the case?
As a rule, the losing party pays the other side's costs, including attorney's fees, in proportion to the part of the claim upheld or dismissed.
04What is arbitration, and when is it suitable?
Arbitration is the resolution of a dispute by arbitrators chosen under an arbitration clause. The award is final and usually faster, but the grounds for setting it aside are very limited. It suits commercial disputes, especially with a foreign element.
