Biography

A financier's literacy, a lawyer's precision.

Alexander Tcherpokov was born in Sofia. In 2006 he graduated from the American University in Bulgaria in business administration, and he took his law degree at New Bulgarian University, graduating with honours as a Master of Laws in 2010. He has been a member of the Sofia Bar Association since 2012.

For more than a decade he has been part of the team at Interius — one of Bulgaria's first private law firms, whose lawyers helped set up the country's first commercial companies, banks and insurers, worked on privatisation transactions and drafted legislation. He also works in close cooperation with the law firm Borisov & Borisov.

He specialises in banking law and lending. He heads the legal service of a non-bank financial institution and of a manufacturer in metallurgy and heavy engineering. His clients are mainly in financial services, real estate development, industrial manufacturing and foreign investment.

He represents clients before every jurisdiction in Bulgaria, including the Supreme Court of Cassation, the Supreme Administrative Court, the Competition Protection Commission, the Consumer Protection Commission and arbitral tribunals. He works with partner lawyers in most regional cities and abroad — in the United States, Germany and Italy — and assists with disputes involving counterparties from China and India.

Principles

How we understand our work.

  • 01

    Confidentiality

Professional privilege is not a formality. What a client shares stays between the client and the lawyer.

  • 02

    Precision

A contract is written for the day something goes wrong. That is why every clause matters.

  • 03

    Candour

We tell clients what their chances are, even when it is not the answer they want to hear.

  • 04

    Continuity

Our most valuable client relationships last for years — from the first consultation to an ongoing retainer.

Clients

Who we work for.

Client names are never published — that is part of professional privilege. This is who they are:

  • Non-bank financial institutions and leasing companies
  • Real estate developers and investors
  • Manufacturers in metallurgy and engineering
  • Foreign investors and their Bulgarian companies
  • Small and medium-sized companies
  • Individuals with loans, mortgages and tax questions

Interius

Legal certainty — since 1989.

Interius was one of the few firms registered right after the democratic changes, when lawyers were first able to set up practices of their own. Its traditions are particularly strong in intellectual property, commercial, financial, tax, labour and administrative law.

Interius lawyers took part in drafting legislation fundamental to the country's economy — among it Decree No. 56 of 9 January 1989 on economic activity.
